Lesson 9

Lesson 9 - During todays lesson we had to write an exam like question under exam contidtions with a time limit. it was about comparing magazines with there online versions and print versions and how they target there specific audiences. this gave me time to think about what i had discovered in the previous lesson and at home browsing internet versions. I found that Hip-Hop magazine had an extremaly poor online version, with no videos, no blogs and barley and images and it did not offer no extra interactional activities

In todays lesson we had to write an exam style essay under timed conditions, about the magazines print and online versions and how they target their specific audiences. This enabled us to think carefully about how the online versions of the music magazines offer many other aspects than what is avaliable in the printed versions. I found that the music magazine of NME- New Musical Express, had a lot more video footage of the music agenda and had a lot more interactivity than the printed version. The printed versions of all magazines are going to be limited in what they can offer as many of them are only weekly, if not monthly issues. Therefore, the most up to date news about music is going to be shown on the online versions and through E-Mail newsletters where avaliable. This task helped me to think about how the different magazines portray different aspects in each version of their music news. It enables me to think how many magazines keep the same style on the online version, and how different the information can be in both the printed and online versions.

Lesson 8

Lesson 8 - During this lesson we were seperated in to pairs, to focus on a certain music magazine to see how they represented the genre of muic it covered. The magazine me and my partner (Emma) were given to analayse was ' Hip Hop'. As the title suggested we came to the conclusion that it was a hip-hop magazine, also the magazine was full of images of hip-hop artists at red carpet events or events that have happend involving stars and also tour dates of hip hop artists.
most of the colours used were quite birght symbolising the livelyness of a hip hop stars life. there were many references to prove that the magazine's target audience were sixteen to twenty five year olds who enjoy listening to the hip hop genre, there is a certain language type to that hip hop artists and fans obviously use as i struggled to pick certain terms up, its something everyone who wasnt a regular reader would battle to understand. this lesson really showed me all the thought and care that goes in to a magazine so that the target audience in satisfied, its everything from colours, images to interviews.

Lesson 7

Lesson 7 - due to illness i missed the past few lessons, which involved taking images for our preliminary task and then using a double lesson to create the prliminaty tak which involved the creation a contens page and front cover of a school magazine. the lesson that i cam back in was the lesson where the rest of the class were finishing theres of. i was forced to use someones elses images that had been taken during the given time. i only had an hour to finish this piece, and therefore was in arush froim the start and again really struggled to get my head round using in photoshop which forced me to hand in a very weak piece.

Lesson 7

Lesson 6

Leson 6- in this double lesson we as a class went into a computer room and used photoshop to create a front cover nor a nature magazine, using the images we took in our previous lesson.
i really did struggle to come to terms on how to use photoshop and was grateful for the time we had as this was just a practice task. i tryed to achieve the best i could with my limited knowledge on how to use this program. i attempted to create the most attractive front cover, that i could for my target audience. i used a image of a squirrel eating a nut, whilst perched on a tree. when the lesson came to an end i was dissapointed with my final frontcover and was frustrated with my lack of ability to use photoshop.

Lesson 5

Lesson 5- we were split in to pairs in this lesson to, as we were given the task to take images of nature which would be suitable for a nature magazine. i was pleased when i found out what we were doing in this lesson, as it gave us the oppurtunity to leave the classroom to get outside and to work us a team to find a appropriate image.
i was placed in a group with Emma and Dale, we made way to a large local pond just across the way from sixth form. When we was there Emma took a picture of a MAN made waterfall but was convinced it was nature much to my disaproval we made ourway back to school just to be informed that it wasnt nature and was sent away again to take a better image. This aggrivated me as it ment we lost valuable time. in the end i took an image of a squirrel eating from a tree, at several different angles and i was pleased with the outcome. Next lesson we will be using these images to trial photo shop with.

Lesson 4

Lesson 4 - During todays lesson, we had one of the computer specialists at our school come in to class to show us the basics of photoshop elements. he began showing us the functions so we could take notes to help us later when we come to using photo shop. photoshop is a programme on computer wihich gives you the ability to edit images for example covering spots. we were taught the basic uses of photo shop, i programme which i really struggle with.
in the second part of our double lesson, we began to study two magazines different universities. one of them was named 'Quad' which is a magazine aimed at post graduates from then queens collage in London. the other magazine we anaylased was names 'Newman' aimed at undergraguates of Newman collage. Both were extremely different and you could tell the age difference of who there target audience was, we looked into there Choice of font, titles, colour, layout and what the front covers had promised inside.

Lesson 2

Lesson 3

in this lesson, we concentrated on how we were going to produce our front page of our school magazine. we went over our work on sales pitch to remind us of the knowledge we had found out in our previous lesson. We carried on in our groups of two's and three's and each created a front cover for a seprate issues. we decide we needed to keep certain things the same on each edition throughout for example the name of the magazine, the font and the price. this is so people familiarise with the magazine and buy it on a regular basis. i took charge of issue two. this lesson helped me understand about who we have to consider when creating the magazine and how to keep our target audience intrested in each issue.
